The Survival Sewing Kit Design
Image for Entry 1328247036 Victoria Caswell, an undergrad fine arts and product design student, has created an imaginative Survival Sewing Kit with a Boy Scout motif. Although this is a school project, I think it would be get a lot of attention at the trading post or the official BSA catalog. What do you think?

Alaska in the summer of 2012.)

These are basically objectives/outline/guide for a good Troop program.
Another is
_Trained Leadership_:
Have a trained and engaged troop committee.
We are asking that all parents/committee members complete the online training at scouting.orgfor not only the "*_Youth Protection training_*", but also "*_This is Scouting_*"and "*_Fast Start training_*". The Scoutmaster and Assistant Scoutmasters must also complete the"_*Leader-Specific Training*_".

These are just some of 13 goals that we are working on achieving again this year. You can find more information on *"Scouting's Journey to Excellence" at scouting.org*. We ask that you and your scout do your best to participate as much as possible in order for everyone to have a great experience in scouting and move our Troop forward!

_*AGAIN: MERIT BADGE COUNSELOR INFORMATION FORM*_
It is also very important that we also complete and turn in the Merit Badge Counselor Information. If this does not happen we limit our scouts to what they can work on. If you need another form or more information on the merit badges please go to scouting.org and check out the various merit badges to see what you can help out with and download the form. Please take the time to do this as soon as possible. I look forward to receiving your form so that it can be registered at the scout office.

Please let us know if you have any questions or comments.

January '12 Committee Meeting
Happy New Year Everyone!

This will be our first parent meeting for 2012. I cannot believe that another year has passed!

Please come to our parent meeting tomorrow night:

*Thursday, January 5th, at 7:**00 pm at Kamalii cafeteria*.

The main topic of this meeting will be organizing the Christmas Tree pick up fundraiser that is set for the morning of this coming Saturday, January 7th. We need as many Boy Scouts and trucks as possible.

*PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF YOU HAVE A TRUCK THAT HAS A TRAILER HITCH, AS WILL AND ELLIE HAVE AN EXTRA TRAILER THAT WE CAN USE.

*We will also need gloves, ropes to tie down the trees and saws to cut them up if necessary for this Saturday. We have had good coverage on the radio and in print and have quite a few calls. Please let your friends and families know that we can pick up their tree on Saturday morning for $10.00. If they need to write a check ask them to make it payable to Troop 22.

I look forward to seeing everyone tomorrow at our first meeting of the year. Please come and support your scout in starting the year out.

We will be updating you on our activities for this next year starting with helping at the Pinewood Derby and the Kamalii Fun Run and a campout in January and the Blue & Gold celebration in February.

Lastly, we still have a few bags of chocolate covered pretzels left for sale. Please help out by purchasing a bag for only $20.00.

Thank you very much and we look forward to seeing you there.

Insanely Well Done Pinewood Car
Image for Entry 1325645861 Steve Lodefink updated his photos to show his progress on some very nice scale model-quality pinewood derby cars he's been working on. For starters, I don't think it ever occurred to me to paint the 'metal' portions of the tires.

Christmas Tree Recycling Pickup, Jan 7th
*PLEASE SEND OUT AN E-MAIL TO ALL OF YOUR CONTACTS AND PEOPLE THAT YOU KNOW AND ASK THEM TO SIGN UP TO HAVE THEIR CHRISTMAS TREE PICKED UP AND RECYCLED ON SATURDAY, JANUARY 7TH, 2012.*

I have send out notices to the Maui News, Maui Time, Maui Weekly and Maui Bulletin. I have also notified most of the radio stations on the island and Ellie has also notified some of the radio stations and asked them to do a Public Service Announcement on their station.

It would help if all of you also notified everyone that you know and ask them to participate in our fundraiser.

Please post a notice on your facebook page and/or e-mail friends and family and others you know in the Kihei/Wailea area.

The more people that hear about this, the more successful our fundraiser will be.

*Troop 22 Boy Scouts in Kihei/Wailea are recycling Christmas trees on Saturday, January 7th and are asking for your help to get the word out to everyone that you know.*

*
*

*_Recycling Your Christmas Tree is Easy and Convenient_*

***The Boy Scouts encourage all residents to recycle their Christmas trees properly to help reduce the volume of waste going to Hawaiis landfills.*
***Even though Christmas is over, the live tree you bought for the holidays is still useful, at least when it comes to the environment.*
***Over one hundred thousand evergreen trees are imported to Hawaii every year for Christmas.*
***Residents are encouraged to recycle their Christmas trees so that they can be recycled into fragrant chips and compost which can be used for landscaping and home gardens rather than taking up space in landfills.*
***South Kihei residents are encouraged to take advantage of Troop 22 Boy Scouts curbside Christmas tree collection program. This program is not only a convenient way to recycle Christmas trees but you can also help your local Boy Scout Troop.*
***Trees must be free of decorations, including tinsel, lights, ornaments, wire and flocking, before recycling.*
***Curbside pick-up of Christmas trees is available for a suggested donation of $10.00 each on Saturday, January 7, 2012, with proceeds benefiting the Kihei/Wailea Boy Scout Troop 22.Reservations should be made at least a day ahead.

Christmas Party, Dec 17th @ 3, Kamali'i School
Aloha Everyone:

This Saturday, December 17th at 3:00 pm at Kamalii Cafetorium will be our annual Christmas party potluck.

Pack 22 has arranged for the Grand Wailea to donate a spaghetti dinner (noodles, sauce with and without meat) and bread for everyone!

Troop 22 families are asked to bring a salad, fruit plate or garlic bread/buns to contribute to dinner.

Troop will also supply a cake for dessert and Jason has generously offered to bring ice cream cups for everyone. Thank you Jason!

Please come at 3:00 pm to help with set up. Please bring some Christmas decorations to help decorate 2 - 3 tables for our Troop families.

We will eat around 4:00 - 4:30.
There will be a Court of Honor for both Pack and Troop after dinner so make sure your son is dressed in his classy Class A uniform. The cub scouts will receive their derby cars also.

We would like to do a white elephant gift exchange for the boy scouts. Please find something around your house that your son would like to choose as a gift to exchange with another scout. Try to keep the value at around $10.00 and nothing too silly. Let's keep it fun for all the boys. Please wrap the gift and have your son secretly deliver it.

After the festivities and clean up all the scouts will go to Kalama Heights to sing Christmas carols for the elderly and be served cookies and hot chocolate.

We look forward to everyone participating in this fun end of the year event!

Please let me know if you have any questions.

See you there,
Rosanne
